Something else that has never happened before in the team's history.  No player on the Tournament team, league team or even practice squad has ever worn the Jersey number 40.  But some players prove they are worthy.

For the first time ever a member of Da 40 Miners will be given the number 40.  He will also be the last player to wear the number, as it is being issued to him for life.  'Golden Toe' Joe, will be given the new number in a special private ceremony with his team.  There will be a plaque put in the soon to be constructed Champions Garden, much like this one.

'Golden Toe' Joe has been the Captain of Da 40 Miners for over 9 years, and during that time has helped lead the team to 6 tournament championships.  Through the good times and the bad, everyone on the team has always known that Joe would be on the pitch and they could look to him as an example of what it meant to be a Miner.  Joe shows no sign of slowing down, and this ceremony should not be seen as a sign that his career is nearing an end.  He plans to be around to hang more banners in the newly renovated Big House.  As much as Joe has been a leader on the pitch, his commitment to the team goes well beyond that.  He has taken it upon himself to be a very active member of the Media Department.  He is constantly communicating with fans through the teams twitter account @Da40Miners.  He has never turned down an interview, and taken every chance he can to discuss the greatness of Da 40 Miners.

So the team has decided that it is clear there has never been a player, and probably will never be another player that represents everything it is to be a Miner.  They can see no reason not to give him the ultimate honor of wearing the number 40, and have declared he will be the only member of the team to ever wear this sacred number.

Zlurpee Bowl IX was to be the unvieling of the new and improved Big House, and still will be in some regard.  But it will be an unvieling of a work in progress.  The plan is now broken into two large phases, and one smaller phase.  Phase 0.5 will be ready for Zlurpee Bowl, this will include the two new Grandstands.  So there will be plenty of room for all the Zlurpee Fans to fill the Big House, we just won't have all the comforts for the teams ready in time.

Current media plan is to have a full news story for each section of the project as it is completed.  Giving our fans a full online tour of the stadium one section at a time.  Some of the key sections that are going to attract a lot of fan attention are part of the Phase 1.0 building, and unfortunatly will not be at Zlurpee Bowl.

Time for some Good news, Da 40 Miners have reserved space at the Chaos Cup to host their matches in the Big House.  The current construction plan shows all of phase 1.0 bieng done in plenty of time for this, and the crews are going to attempt to work overtime and get Phase 2.0 done as well.

Along with the Shirts made for the contest we are going to be putting together a limited run of T-Shirts for anyone that would want to pre-order them.  The cost gets cheaper the more shirts we order, but we would be looking at $25 shipped in the US add $5 to ship internationally.  If you are interested in buying a shirt please contact us, Da40miners@gmail.com

This will be a one print run only item, and we will be shipping them out the first week of June, But payment will need to be recieved by the end of April.

We are also checking out a couple of other places to see if we can get this done cheaper, we will keep you posted.

Check out all the memorabilia he collects from his all time favourite dwarf team. He even takes it with him when he goes to work! If you look closely you can see a shiny jewel he just found deep within the mine. Tough job, but well worth it, at least today!"

The team has traveled to two tournaments this season already:

HeadBangers Ball III, they arrived as the defending champions and played some tough teams.  At the end of the day, they would finish with 1 win and 3 ties.  Not the best of days, but they can still say they have never lost a game at that tournament.  The record wasn't great but the tournament decided based on the teams performance and physical play it was enough for 3rd Place.

Put a ring on it III (Mitchell's), this would be the teams second Put a Ring on it tournament, having won Best Defense at the Rufer edition they were ready to win another award.  They would go through a gauntlet of tough matches, starting with a rematch with the Lizardman team they played the last round of Headbangers Ball.  The Lizards fresh off their tournament win played the Miners tough, thankfully the Miners defense was able to break up a stalling attempt in the first half and would go on to win the game 1-0.  The next two rounds would see the team play both other Dwarf teams at the tournament, and come away with 1-0 wins in both.  The final round was against one of the most decorated coaches in the US, Solarflare.  The team gave up thier first TD of the tournament early, but were focused to continue beating the Underworld team into the pitch.  As the player count grew slim for the mixed race team the Miners were able to take advantage and win the match 2-1, causing 7 Casualties on the way.  With a perfect record the team was crowned the champions of the tournament.

Two top three finishes in the first two tournaments of the year, what a start.  The team has a bit of a layoff in thier schedule as they won't see action again until GenCon Bowl in August.  The franchise has a lot on their plate though as they are working on major construction to the Big House.  The upgrades must be done in time for Zlurpee Bowl on June 8th as the Big House will be the host of the top table matches throughout that tournament.

The engineering department has finally finished the design of the upgrades, and construction is under way.  I'm going to be making a trip to the Big House to take some pictures for you tonight, so look for an update on that soon.

All Fans must be on a 25mm standard size base, so that they fit in the stands properly.
